After months of anticipation, Florida‘s race for governor is officially underway. Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly are now set to face off, but the campaign has already gotten off to a combative start. As both parties trade attacks, many Floridians online say they’re disappointed to see the race begin with political mudslinging instead of policy discussions.
Today, several sources announced that Byron Donalds and David Jolly are in Florida’s governor’s race. The former will represent the Republican side while the latter will represent the Democratic side. Yet, despite many hoping for these two candidates to be good news for the state, it seems it was the complete opposite, especially as one party has already started to retaliate.
Many Floridians spotted that the Republican side is already attacking Jolly, the Democratic candidate, which many see as a shameful thing to do during the race, but not unheard of. On the other hand, people are a bit confused, as they never expected a black man to be leading the Republican Party in the race, and believe that, given how the GOP hasn’t allegedly been great to minorities, they believe this is a bit ironic.
In any case, many locals think that these two candidates aren’t good news for the state, and many feel ashamed but also pessimistic since they don’t see any real change coming to Florida any time soon.
Florida Locals Feel Pessimistic Over Governor’s Race Candidates
Many residents have already shared their thoughts, with the majority feeling that neither of the candidates will do anything good for the state.
“As a Floridian, I’m preparing for how bad this election will be. I’m hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. The way that the Republicans were vicious with each other, it’s gonna be bad here.“
“I’ve recently come to the conclusion I need to leave the state to even attempt to have a semblance of a good life. I’ve been looking for a job for months, and even if I find one, rent will be 60%+ of my take-home.“
Others have noted how Republicans have already attacked first, with some commercials against the other candidate.
“They’re already airing David Jolly attack ads, and they’re really pathetic.“

While the race is only just beginning, many of the reactions suggest some Floridians are already weary of the tone it has taken. Rather than expressing excitement about the candidates, many commenters said they were frustrated by the early political attacks and hoped the campaign would eventually shift its focus toward the issues that matter most to voters.
