As many already know, the Governor’s race has begun in Florida, and its candidates are already under a lot of scrutiny due to what they are saying, especially the one on the Republican side, Byron Donalds. Recently, a video of him has surfaced in which he claims that Data Centers are the future of the state. As you can imagine, no one really agreed, and they quickly fired back at the one representing the GOP.
In a video posted on the Jacksonville subreddit from the Florida Firster channel on TikTok, it shows an interview with the current GOP candidate for Governor, Byron Donalds. As you can see, he focuses on talking about data centers, claiming they are the “future” of the state.
He claims everyone will need data centers and that citizens should “embrace that.” He then continues to mention that these facilities and power will be important for the state’s future, calling them “critical things.”
However, the one thing that alarmed many locals is how Donalds claims that there’s a lot of land in the state that is still pristine, which would be perfect for data centers.
As you can imagine, and given how controversial the whole data center topic is, no one liked Donalds’ claims. Many still believe that data centers should not be built anywhere in the country, especially in Florida. Given how many resources they take and how they affect the environment, Florida is certainly a strange choice for building these facilities.
Florida Residents Fire Back at Donalds Over Data Centers Push
After he said the state’s future lies in data centers, people grew angry and began criticizing the candidate, saying he’s not a good pick to run for governor.
“Byron is our worst choice in a long time. Write your preferred candidate or vote Jolly.“
“There is no reality where Donalds would get my vote.“
Others focused again on the fact that data centers continue to be bad for every state, and noted how they will only spell doom for Florida.
“There is very little left, and not having our entire state commodified, our trees stripped when it’s already 100 degrees in summer, our wildlife displaced, and our aquifer depleted.“
In the end, it seems this data center push, alongside other things Donalds has done at the beginning of his campaign, is already backfiring, which doesn’t look great for someone who strives to become Governor.
